Backup to JSON
Whether you’re switching devices, creating backups, or sharing data with your accountant, Precious Metals Manager makes it easy to export your full portfolio in a structured format.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to export your entire dataset as a JSON file, and how to optionally include attachments like receipts and certificates.
🧾 What Is a JSON File?
A JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) file is a structured way to store data. It’s especially useful for:
- Creating full backups
- Importing your data into another device
- Sharing your data with a developer or accountant
- Migrating data between apps or formats
📋 What Does the Export Include?
Exporting to JSON will include:
✅ All your Orders ✅ All your Bullions (coins, bars, rounds) ✅ All associated Items in each order ✅ Your Sellers, including tags ✅ Your configured Tags ✅ All notes, prices, and metadata
If you choose to, you can also export your file attachments, such as:
📎 Scanned invoices 📎 Photos of your bullion 📎 Certificates of authenticity
🧭 How to Export Your Data to JSON
-
Go to Settings Tap the settings button on the “Tools” tab or on the sidebar if you are using the app from an iPad or Mac.
-
Scroll to the “Backup” section This is where you’ll find all import/export options.
-
Tap “Export Data to JSON” Look for the option labeled “Export dat to JSON”**.
-
Select the location where the CSV file or attachments will be saved.

📎 Need to Export Attachments Too?
If you also want to back up your images, scanned receipts, and other attachments:
- In the same Backup section of Settings
- Tap “Export attachments”
Attachments are exported separately to keep file sizes manageable. It’s a good idea to export your data first, then your attachments.
📌 Tip: If you’re planning to restore your data later, be sure to import attachments first, so the app can link them correctly.
🔄 Importing Later?
If you’ve exported your data and attachments, you can restore them anytime:
- Go back to the Backup section
- Tap “Import attachments” first
- Then tap “Import Data from JSON”

🔒 Is My Data Secure?
Yes — your data never leaves your device unless you explicitly export it. All files are stored locally or in your private iCloud account. You control when and how your data is shared.
🧰 Use Cases for JSON Export
